5 common mistakes with Medium of Instruction / IELTS Exemption Letter — and how to avoid them
These are common problems with Medium of Instruction / IELTS Exemption Letter submissions. Checking them before lodgement reduces the risk of a request for further information.
1. Submitting expired evidence (police clearance and medical certificates expire after 12 months)
2. Incomplete scans of the source document (missing back pages, stamps, or signatures), forcing a redo of the work
3. Using a self-translation or non-NAATI translator — DHA and AHPRA reject these immediately and request a re-submission
4. Failing to translate stamps and signatures — DHA returns the file as 'incomplete translation'
5. Mistranslating Thai government terminology (e.g., translating 'Amphoe' as 'District', confusing it with Bangkok districts)
Acceptance is decided by the receiving authority; a correct translation does not guarantee an outcome.
