5 common mistakes with Statutory Declaration of Sponsorship — and how to avoid them
These are common problems with Statutory Declaration of Sponsorship submissions. Checking them before lodgement reduces the risk of a request for further information.
1. Using a self-translation or non-NAATI translator — DHA and AHPRA reject these immediately and request a re-submission
2. Submitting expired evidence (police clearance and medical certificates expire after 12 months)
3. Incomplete scans of the source document (missing back pages, stamps, or signatures), forcing a redo of the work
4. Mistranslating Thai government terminology (e.g., translating 'Amphoe' as 'District', confusing it with Bangkok districts)
5. Inconsistent name spellings across documents (passport vs. birth certificate) — usually requires an additional Statutory Declaration
Acceptance is decided by the receiving authority; a correct translation does not guarantee an outcome.
