    1) Core intents

“Legalisation” in Thailand is not one stamp but a chain of verifications: the issuing authority signs, a notarial services attorney certifies copies or signatures, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs authenticates that signature, and the destination country either accepts an Apostille or requires its embassy in Bangkok to add a final endorsement. The searches below are the entry points people use when they are still deciding which part of that chain applies to them.

    2) Notary layer

Only lawyers registered as Notarial Services Attorneys with the Lawyers Council of Thailand may notarise here — Thailand has no separate notary-public profession. This layer covers certified true copies, affidavits, powers of attorney and signature witnessing, the four requests that make up most files we open.

    3) MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) layer

The Department of Consular Affairs at Chaeng Watthana verifies the signature on the document or on its official translation. Standard service is about three business days; a same-day counter is available for urgent files. The consular fee is 200 THB per document for standard service.

    4) Embassy layer (60+ consulates)

Each embassy in Bangkok sets its own queue, fee and document format. Some accept walk-in submission the same week; others require appointments booked days ahead. We track current requirements per mission so a file is not rejected over formatting.

    5) Documents most-often legalised

Civil-registry records (birth, marriage, divorce, death), police clearance certificates, academic credentials and corporate instruments account for the large majority of legalisation work. Each has its own translation conventions, and a mismatch between the Thai original and the translation is the most common cause of rejection.

    6) Problem-solving / rejections

If a document has already been refused, send us the rejection notice first. Most refusals trace back to one of four causes: a missing MFA step, a translation that does not mirror the original layout, an expired issue date, or a name spelling that differs from the passport.

    FAQ (6 answers)

Does Thailand accept the Hague Apostille?

Thailand acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention with effect from 2026. For destination countries that are Hague members, an Apostille from the Thai MFA replaces the previous embassy-legalisation step. Non-Hague destinations still need the full Notary → MFA → Embassy chain.

In what order do the stamps go on?

Standard chain is: (1) originating authority signature, (2) certified/notarised translation, (3) Thai MFA authentication, (4) destination-country embassy legalisation or Apostille. Skipping a step is the #1 reason documents get rejected.

How fast can this be done end-to-end?

3–7 business days is typical. Same-day MFA is possible on rush; embassy turnaround depends on the consulate's queue (some are 1 day, some 5–10).

Can you rescue a document that's already been rejected?

Yes. Send us the rejection notice — we diagnose which stamp is missing/incorrect and rebuild the chain, usually within 48 hours.

Do you handle corporate document bundles?

Yes — company affidavits, board resolutions, POAs, commercial registrations, tax certs — legalised in bulk under one invoice with volume pricing.

What if the destination country isn't listed?

We cover 60+ embassies. If yours isn't listed, message us — we probably still handle it, and if not we know who does.

Thailand and the Apostille Convention — current status and what changes

Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026; the Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Until that date documents still follow the existing legalization chain (Notary → Department of Consular Affairs → destination embassy).

    1. Phase 1 — until entry into force

Thai documents for overseas use still follow the existing chain: Notarial Services Attorney → Department of Consular Affairs legalization → destination embassy legalization.

    2. Phase 2 — from 28 February 2027

For Contracting Parties, a single Apostille certificate replaces destination-embassy legalization. Non-party countries keep the full legalization chain.

    3. Phase 3 — documents certified earlier

Documents already legalized under the old route remain usable subject to the receiving authority's rules. Always confirm document age with the receiving authority before filing.

During the transition we verify the correct certification route case by case before starting any file.
